The following policy outlines your rights with regard to the data we collect and how we process it. We update this Policy from time to time so please do review this policy regularly. Our Privacy Policy was last updated on 12th October 2021.  Please contact us if you would like a previous version of this policy.

Go Walkabout respects your privacy and we are committed to protecting your personal data.  The purpose of this notice is to inform you how we look after your personal data and tell you about how the law protects you and the privacy rights you have.

Details of the personal data we collect

We will only collect data that is necessary to provide you with a quote for travel insurance or for you to complete the purchase of a travel insurance policy. If you do not provide us with the following information, we are unlikely to be able to provide you with a travel insurance quote or policy:

  • Identity data such as your forename and surname, title, date of birth and gender.
  • Contact information including your postal address, email address and telephone number.
  • Financial data if you complete a purchase.  This is collected, processed, encrypted and stored securely using our payment provider Sagepay.
  • Technical data including your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, time zone and approximate location, operating system and other technology on the device you have used to access the website.
  • Usage data such as how you use our websites, products and services.
  • Marketing and communication data including your marketing and communication preferences.
  • Health and medical information including your medical history you provide us, GP records (with your express consent), medical reports from hospitals abroad and other medical information to allow your travel insurance policy to be administered.  Typically health information will be provided directly to our policy underwriters for this purpose.

We may also collect, use and share Aggregated Data such as statistical or demographic data for any purpose. Aggregated Data may be derived from your personal data but is not considered personal data in law as this data does not directly or indirectly reveal your identity.

 

How We Collect Personal Data

The majority of data we use will be collected online or over the phone. We may also communicate with you in writing.

We collect information about your use of our site including details of your visits such as pages viewed and the resources that you access. Such information includes traffic data, location data and other communication data.

Some of this data may be collected from Third parties or publicly available sources as set out below:

  • Technical data from analytics providers such as Google.
  • Technical data from advertising networks or affiliates.
  • Technical data from search information providers.
  • Identity and contact data from aggregators within the EU.

 

Use Of Your Information

We use the information that we collect from you to provide our services to you. Your information will also be shared with our policy underwriters, if a policy has been purchased, for the purpose of administering your travel insurance policy and providing services associated with your travel insurance purchase. In addition to this, where your consent has been obtained, we may use the information for one or more of the following purposes:

  • To provide information to you that you request from us relating to our products or services
  • To provide information to you relating to other products that may be of interest to you. Such additional information will only be provided where you have consented to receive such information
  • To inform you of any changes to our website, services or goods and products
  • If you have previously purchased goods or services from us we may provide you with details of similar goods or services, or other goods and services, that may be of interest to you.

 

Legal Basis for Data Collection and Processing

We have set out below a description of the ways we plan to use your personal data and the legal bases we rely on to do so.

    We hold recent, clear, explicit, and defined consent for the individual’s data to be processed for a specific purpose.
  2. Contract
    The processing is necessary to fulfil or prepare a valid travel insurance policy for the individual.
  3. Legal obligation
    We have a legal obligation to process the data (excluding a contract).
  4. Vital interests
    Processing the data is necessary to protect a person’s life or in a medical situation.
  5. Public function
    Processing is necessary to carry out a public function, a task of public interest or the function has a clear basis in law.
  6. Legitimate interest
    The processing is necessary for our legitimate interests. This condition does not apply if there is a good reason to protect the individual’s personal data which overrides the legitimate interest.

Use of Cookies

Cookies provide information regarding the computer used by a visitor. We may use cookies where appropriate to gather information about your computer in order to assist us in improving our website.

We may gather information about your general internet use by using the cookie. Where used, these cookies are downloaded to your computer and stored on the computer’s hard drive. Such information will not identify you personally. It is statistical data. This statistical data does not identify any personal details whatsoever.

You can adjust the settings on your computer to decline any cookies if you wish. This can easily be done by activating the reject cookies setting on your computer.

Google Remarketing

The Go Walkabout website uses Google’s remarketing technology. This allows us to display relevant ads based on what pages on the Go Walkabout website you have viewed. The advertising will be displayed using cookies. This cookie doesn’t record any personal information or identify you personally.

If you would prefer to not receive any targeted advertising, you can deactivate the use of cookies for these purposes through Google by visiting the website: https://www.google.com/settings/ads/. Facebook Conversion Tracking Pixel

Go Walkabout may, from time to time, use Facebook Advertising, Facebook Pixel Re-Marketing, and communications. This tool allows Go Walkabout to understand and deliver ads and make them more relevant to you. The collected data remains anonymous and Go Walkabout cannot see the personal data of any individual user.

However, the collected data is saved and processed by Facebook. Facebook may be able to connect the data with your Facebook account and use the data for their own advertising purposes (in accordance with Facebook’s Data Use Policy found under: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/). Facebook has ultimate control of the  information gathered through Facebook Advertising, Facebook Pixel Re-Marketing, and communications. You can opt-out of Facebook’s use of cookies and Facebook Pixel Re-Marketing through settings on your Facebook Account.

Storing Your Personal Data

All information that is provided is stored on our secure servers. Any payment transactions will be encrypted and stored by our payment processor Sagepay. We understand that you trust us with your personal information and we will do our best to protect and keep your information wholly secure. Despite our efforts to keep your information secure we cannot guarantee the security of the data transmitted to our site. Any transmission is at your own risk. Therefore, ensure the protection on your computer is constantly updated. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access. The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (EEA), but only where adequate safeguards are in place. It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for one of our supplier partners. Such staff may be engaged in, among other things, the fulfilment of your order, the processing of your payment details and the provision of support services. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

We will not retain your personal information longer than necessary. We will hold the information for a period where the purpose is in existence, for example when your policy is live or when needed to be able to provide the services to you, or (in the case of any contact you may have with our Customer Care team) for as long as is necessary to provide support- related reporting and trend analysis only. If legally required or if it is necessary to meet regulatory requirements, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, or enforce our Terms and Conditions, we may also retain some of your information for a limited period of time as required, even after your quote or policy has expired for us to provide the services to you.

If you consent to marketing, any information we use for this purpose will be kept until you notify us that you no longer wish to receive this information.

Disclosing Your Information

We will not disclose your personal information to any other party other than in accordance with this Privacy Policy and in the circumstances detailed below:

  • In the event that we sell any or all of our business to the buyer

  • Where we are legally required by law to disclose your personal information

  • To further fraud protection and reduce the risk of fraud

We may also share your data with Third Parties with whom we have a legally binding contract in order to allow us to provide our service to you. These third parties include::

  • Service providers based in the UK acting as processors who provide us with database technologies to hold our data.

  • Price comparison websites, aggregators and similar companies based in the UK that offer ways to research and apply for financial products and services.

  • Customer helpdesk service providers including Zendesk.

  • Our policy underwriters, acting as processors or joint controllers, who will administer your policy and provide associated services such as claims and medical assistance handling.

  • Fraud prevention agencies.

  • Customer experience tools and review request providers such as Feefo that show us your customer purchase experience so we can gain a greater understanding in order to improve the process.

  • Contact and list management providers such as MailChimp.

  • HM Revenue & Customs, regulators and authorities based in the UK, acting as processors or joint controllers.

What Are Your Rights?

  • If, at any point, you wish to either confirm whether your personal data is being processed and/or access the information we hold about you, you can request to see this information, usually free of charge, and we will respond to this request within one month.

  • You have the right for data that you have provided to Go Walkabout Ltd to be provided to you in a structured and commonly used electronic format, so that you can move, copy or transfer this data easily to another data controller. You may also request that we transmit this data directly to another organisation where it is practical for us to do so.

  • You are entitled to have data corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete.

  • You are entitled to have data deleted if it is no longer needed or there is no longer a legitimate reason for the processing or, if the data in question has otherwise been unlawfully processed. You may also request the deletion of your personal data if it was only being processes as a result of you consenting to this and you now withdraw your consent.

  • You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data. This only provides you with the right to raise your objections, not a blanket right to have any and all processing cease.

  • You have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances, including if you have contested its accuracy and while it is being verified by Go Walkabout Ltd or, if you have objected to its processing and while Go Walkabout Ltd is considering whether it has legitimate grounds to continue to do so.

 

Your Right to Complain
